Ways to Know When to Cut One Down

Posted on February 22, 2024

It’s never easy to say goodbye, but it’s especially hard when it’s to an oak tree that has been there since you moved in. Though it’s annoying, there are times when it’s important for your safety and the health of your plants.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell when to cut down a tree. Here are the most important signs that you need tree trimming service:

The Tree Is Too Close

This might cause major problems if trees reach close to your home or other structures. Do you live near the tree? Since its roots may lift the foundation, you should address the matter soon.

Branches touching the siding can develop mold even if the tree isn’t against your house. To avoid issues, prune your trees regularly. Trees can obscure the sun as well as develop mold, which is expensive to fix.

You See Weak or Dead Tree Leaves and Bark

Most of the time, a damaged tree will show particular signs. Though you may take care of your tree, diseases can make it weaker and more likely to fall over or lose limbs, even if you do everything you can to keep it healthy.

It’s possible to control the disease in some cases, and you might be able to get rid of the infected parts by trimming the tree.

The Trunk Is Hollow

There is generally bad news when you see holes or hollow spots in a tree trunk. The tree is weakening because of these signs. Some trees are safer than others, but if the base is weak, the tree’s limbs might not be able to support itself. This could put your home or family in danger. Any time, a branch or even a big piece could fall.

More Tree Branches Are Dying Or Dead

Some branches will die over time because that’s how trees grow. But if you can’t keep up with the parts of your tree that are dying, that’s a bad sign.

Things that are big and dead near the top of a dying tree are especially dangerous because they can fall hard and quickly. Usually, you should cut down a tree if more than half of it is damaged.

The Tree May Fall Soon

Is it a little unsettling to look at the tree? In most cases, that gut feeling is correct. A tree can fall if it begins to slant to one side or if its shape changes. You should probably just get rid of it on the off chance that it might cause serious harm to your house.

Healthy, New Green Life Is Over

As a general rule, a tree is not doing well if it does not show signs of new growth. The tree is beyond rescue if its branches are weak and brittle, its leaves are dead or browning, and its trunk has changed significantly.

Check the tree’s branch and leaf health in comparison to the others on your land. How does it score? It may be your only choice for tree removal if all the other trees in the area are flourishing.
