Monterrey may not be performing to their potential in the Leagues Cup; here is why.
Defensive Line
The defensive line serves as the foundation of any team’s defense, including its nose tackle (also referred to as nose guard) and outside linebackers. To differentiate themselves from their counterparts on defense – two-point stance linebackers – nose tackles usually adopt three- or four-point stances before snapping the ball.
Linebackers are responsible for rushing the passer and stopping running plays directed towards the center of the line of scrimmage, as well as sometimes covering B or C gaps depending on a defensive strategy. Alineaciones De Club De Futbol Monterrey Contra Portland Timbers
Oft times, outside linebackers transition seamlessly into coverage roles as well. This strategy is essential to an effective defense as it allows the defensive line to change focus between side of the field.
Midfield
Midfielders play an essential role in setting the pace and flow of a game. They must read opponents accurately, make decisions that advance play forward quickly, and keep possession moving at an efficient rate without stagnation.
The club competes in Liga MX and plays their home matches at Estadio BBVA Bancomer with a capacity of 53,500, one of Mexico’s largest stadiums designed by Populous (who also designed Children’s Mercy Park).

This club has long prioritized homegrown talent, producing international stars like Hector Becerra, Antonio de Nigris, Missael Espinoza, Severo Meza and Hiram Mier. Their fans known as Rayados fill Estadio BBVA Bancomer stadium to become its highest average attendance league club.
Monterrey FC and Tigres UANL have an historic rivalry known as Clasico Regiomontano that has contributed greatly to Monterrey selling out every home game this season – both sides boast huge fan bases who come out for all major matches to show their support.
Goalkeeper
Monterrey’s success lies heavily on their goalkeeper’s positioning and distribution to their defenders, specifically Marcelo Barovero who plays an essential part in their defensive structure and has played an instrumental role in their recent successes.
Monterrey made history when they made it all the way to the 2019 Club World Cup final where they finished as runners-up after losing on penalties to Tigres UANL for second place, marking their inaugural trip this far into tournament competition.
Monterrey came back from being down 2-0 against Al-Hilal to force extra time with Rogelio Funes Mori’s header, sending it into extra time and sending Monterrey through to a thrilling penalty shoot-out win that secured them an impressive bronze medal – marking Monterrey’s first major international competition victory over an Major League Soccer club, making history!
