If you follow tech or business even remotely, you’ve probably heard of the metaverse, the latest buzz in technology that’s getting major attention – and investment.
With a value of over $47 billion and rising, it’s no wonder investors are curious about the future of the metaverse.
You may have even considered making an investment in the metaverse yourself, such as through metaverse stocks.
But before you make a metaverse investment, you need to know what the metaverse is and how you can invest. Keep reading, we’ve got your answers.
What Is the Metaverse?
The metaverse is a term for a virtual world. The term has been around since 1992 when Neil Stephenson coined the term in his sci-fi book “Snow Crash,” in which headsets are used to access virtual reality worlds.
Since the metaverse is a virtual world, it enables you to do many of the same things you can do in reality. In the metaverse, you can play games, collaborate with others, socialize, attend concerts and events, and shop for virtual or physical products with digital currencies.
Today the term has been used by many companies that are building their own versions of the metaverse. The most famous of these is the company formerly known as Facebook, Inc., which rebranded to Meta Platforms, Inc.
However, many other companies are building their own metaverses. Epic Games, Tencent, The Sandbox, Google, and Microsoft are all working on their own version of the metaverse.
Metaverse Stocks and Other Investment Opportunities
Since the metaverse has great potential, there are many investment opportunities available. A few of these options include:
- Buying metaverse land or real estate
- Starting a business in the metaverse
- Buying NFTs (non-fungible tokens)
- Purchasing metaverse stocks
Some of these options are more straightforward than others. For example, buying metaverse real estate first requires you to choose the metaverse you are interested in, then buy virtual land in that metaverse.
Buying metaverse stocks can also be straightforward. As previously mentioned, many tech companies are building the metaverse, so there are plenty of stock options.
There’s also the excitement around the metaverse and how fast it is growing. Much of that growth is driven by proven leaders in the tech industry, such as Microsoft and Nvidia.
But major tech companies aren’t the only ones building the metaverse. There are smaller companies with more affordable stock.
Like any investment, there is some risk involved, so you should do plenty of research in advance. Learning more about the technology behind it and its future potential will determine if you should invest in metaverse stocks, and how you should invest.
Choose Your Metaverse Investment Options
Metaverse stocks, virtual real estate, NFTs, and starting your own business – all are valid ways of investing in the metaverse, but not every method is right for you. Careful research and understanding your risk tolerance are important for any investment.
