What You Need in an Emergency Kit

Posted on November 23, 2022

Do you have a home or car emergency kit? What if there was an unexpected danger or disaster? Do you have the supplies that you need to survive?

It’s vital for everyone to have an emergency kit on hand at all times. These kits can help keep your family safe and prepared for anything.

Below, we’ve created a guide on how to make the ideal emergency kit for your household. It’s vital that everyone in the family have their own to help ensure safety during a time of need.

Keep reading to find out what should be included in your emergency kit today.

Non-Perishable Foods

These are foods that have a long shelf life and do not need to be refrigerated. Non-perishable foods include canned goods, dry goods, and freeze-dried foods. Canned goods are a great option because they do not need to be cooked and can be eaten right out of the can.

Dry goods, such as rice, pasta, and cereal, can be cooked with little to no water. Freeze-dried foods are a lightweight and easy-to-store option, but they do need to be rehydrated before eating.

Water

It’s important to have clean water in an emergency kit, especially if you anticipate being without running water for an extended period of time.

Shop for doorway water tanks and fill them with clean water. Make sure to rotate the water every six months. You’ll also need a way to purify water in an emergency. Make sure to stock up on iodine tablets or a water filter.

First-Aid Supplies

When you are stocking your emergency kits, there are certain first aid supplies you will need to make sure you have on hand. At a minimum, you should have bandages, antibiotic ointment, pain medication, and a basic first aid book.

You may also want to include more specialized items such as a snake bite kit or a splint. Antacid tablets and motion sickness medication can also be helpful to have on hand. Make sure to pack any prescription medications you or your family members take on a regular basis.

Clothes

It’s always a good idea to be prepared for an emergency, and one of the things you’ll need is a properly stocked emergency kit. When it comes to clothes, you’ll need to make sure you have enough to keep yourself and your family warm and dry.

Depending on the climate you live in, this could mean packing extra blankets, coats, hats, and gloves. You should also pack sturdy shoes and change into them if you have to evacuate. If you have small children, be sure to pack extra clothes for them as well.

Discover More About an Emergency Kit Today

If you want to be prepared for an emergency, you need to have an emergency kit guide. An emergency kit is a collection of supplies that you may need in an emergency situation. You can purchase an emergency kit, or you can make your own.

If you make your own, be sure to include items such as food, water, a first aid kit, a flashlight, and a radio. If you are not sure what to include in your emergency kit, you can find more information online or at your local Red Cross.
